mountain city barnKairos Inside is a well-organized and well-trained volunteer-based organization consisting of both men and women from the Mountain City community and communities surrounding the Northeast Correctional complex. These volunteers join together two times a year to present an introductory 3-day weekend, described as a short course in Christianity. The program is complemented with monthly gatherings and a Monday night prayer and share program known as the Kairos Journey.  Click here to visit the Department of Corrections’ website to learn more about NECX and where it is located.  chaplain

The Structure of the Program

The residents who participate in the weekend program are selected by the Chaplain from among the influential inmate leadership of the prison, both positive and negative. Kairos Inside offers the weekend program in both the Spring and Fall. It begins on a Wednesday evening with a team meeting at Bethany Baptist Church. The team goes into the prison on Thursday evening with introductions to the residents. On Friday, there is a 12-hour program that introduces Christ to the residents followed by another 12-hour program on Saturday which encourages the residents to take advantage of Christ’s forgiveness. On Sunday the residents are invited to think about their futures and join prayer and share groups. The weekend concludes on Sunday afternoon with a closing ceremony and an opportunity for the residents to share their weekend experiences with the team and others.

The Follow-up Program

In addition to the two weekends a year, Kairos Inside volunteer team in Mountain City involves itself in a 1 ½ day. Three-hour follow-up program on the weekend following the 3-day introductory weekend. Additionally, gatherings are held on the first Thursday of every month. The follow-up program is led by the outside team and seeks to reinforce the importance of participation by the residents in weekly prayer and share groups. The monthly gatherings are led by a group of residents who are the Kairos Inside Council with the emphasis again being focused on prayer and share groups. Prison Ministires

The History

The Kairos Inside program began at NECX the fall of 2001 and since that time 12 weekends have taken place involving approximately 428 residents. Due to its emphasis on love and listening and its monthly follow-up, it is believed that Kairos is one of the most effective prison ministries in the state of Tennessee and the Nation.
